Authorities in Thailand have seized 35 tonnes of weapons and arms that were en route from North Korea headed for Pakistan or Sri Lanka.
Thai military investigators searched a Russian cargo plane, which landed at Bangkok's secondary airport yesterday for refuelling.
Inside they found 12 large crates containing missiles, explosives and weapons parts, which have been seized.
Local media reports the Thais were tipped off by the United States.
The plane had reportedly passed through Thailand earlier in the day but it was stopped and impounded after it returned from the North Korean capital, Pyongyang.
Five men from eastern Europe are in custody and are expected to face arms trafficking charges.
The alleged arms dealer Viktor Bout from Russia is currently in Thailand awaiting a court ruling on his extradition to the United States.
